LEGISLATIVE UPDATES - NEW LAWS GOING INTO EFFECT IN MAY
During the 2020 Legislative Session, we passed a number of bills aimed at lifting up working families that took effect on Saturday, May 1. Below are highlights of these bills:
House Bill 395 raises the state minimum wage to $9.50 an hour, the first increase in over 12 years.
House Bill 582 gives local governments the ability to authorize collective bargaining agreements for their employees.
House Bill 358 allows public bodies to require project labor agreements for public works projects.
House Bill 833 mandates prevailing wages be paid for public works projects
COVID-19 UPDATES
Governor Northam has revised the mask guidance in Virginia to be in line with CDC recommendations.
The CDC guidelines state that fully vaccinated individuals do not have to wear masks outdoors when alone or in small gatherings.
Mask use is still required indoors and outdoors at large crowded events like concerts, sporting events, and graduation ceremonies.
People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the last required dose of vaccine.
Virginia’s updated guidance also allows up to 1,000 spectators at outdoor recreational sporting events.
You can read the Governor’s announcement here.

I encourage you to take the time to provide your input to the following upcoming state and federal projects directly affecting our community.
