OCTOBER 14, 2020

Neighbors,

Thanks to everyone who joined my Elections Tele-Town Hall last week. We are less than three weeks away from Election Day! This year, the General Assembly passed legislation to expand access to the polls, including no-excuse absentee voting, and Virginians have been voting early in-person and by absentee mail ballots in record numbers.

You have many options for voting:

  • early in-person

  • mail in your absentee ballot

  • submit your absentee ballot via drop box

  • cast your ballot in-person on Election Day.

I encourage you to make a plan to vote and have your voice heard in this year’s elections!

Below are updates on:

Elections

Extension of Voter Registration Deadline to 10/15

Virginia’s voter registration deadline has been extended to tomorrow, October 15. A federal judge extended the deadline due to a systems outage that took down the registration website yesterday. You can register to vote or update your voter registration at https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation

Satellite Voting in Fairfax County

Today, October 14, is the first day that satellite locations across Fairfax County will open for early absentee voting. You will be able to vote early in-person or submit your absentee ballot via drop box at each location while it is open for voting purposes. You can learn more about satellite office locations and operating hours here: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/elections/early-voting

Updates from Governor Northam

Pandemics Metrics

The Virginia Department of Health has released a new Pandemic Metrics dashboard, which provides regional information about the spread of COVID-19. This data will help give local leaders additional information about the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in schools. You can learn more about the new dashboard here: https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/key-measures/pandemic-metrics/

New CARES Act Funding Allocations

This year, Virginia received about $3.1 billion to aid in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic from the federal CARES Act. Governor Northam has continued to allocate these funds, most recently authorizing the following:

An additional $220 million for Virginia’s K-12 public schools to assist in responding to COVID-19 for the 2020-2021 academic year.

An additional $12 million for Virginia’s Rent and Mortgage Relief Program, which is helping to ensure Virginians have access to stable housing. As I shared previously, if you have been economically impacted by COVID-19 and need assistance paying rent or mortgage bills, please visit https://www.dhcd.virginia.gov/rmrp

An additional $30 million to fast-track local broadband projects. This will help Virginia families connect to the internet for work and virtual learning.
